High School of Wuhan Economic Development Zone was established in 1996 and is now one of the most academically successful schools in Wuhan. It is ideally located in Hanyang near Sanjiaohu (Three Triangle) lake, and next to Janghan  University. The acreage of our school is the largest amongst all the middle schools in the city.

FACILITIES

The school covers an area of 17 hectares, including 50,000 square meters of educational buildings and accommodation. Campus grounds are well maintained and picturesque. The school was presented, by the Wuhan Local Government, an award for excellence in campus construction and for floral arrangement of the surrounding grounds.

Educational facilities include a laboratory complex, electronic library, arts and music building with sound labs, and gymnasium to name but a few. All teaching areas have access to the Internet (filtered) and are connected to a local network, which is monitored. There are playgrounds for the active and sports orientated students. The sporting facilities boast a swimming pool, tennis courts and a stadium. In addition, there are track and field grounds, volleyball and basketball courts, and football grounds.

There are 262 furnished flats in four, five-storeyed, apartment buildings available for student accommodation with custodial care. A first class canteen supplies cooked nutritious food, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as a small store selling food-stuffs, personal hygiene products and drinks.

ACADEMIA
Currently, the school employs 139 teaching and administrative staff. There are 30 classes and student numbers exceed 1,400. In the near future this will increase to approximately 160 teaching and administrative staff, and 2000 students in 36 classes.

All of our teachers are highly trained and motivated. The school not only searches Hubei province for specialist teachers but all ofChina. The teachers excel in a variety of areas, instilling their students with the ability to think independently and equipping them with the attitudes they will need to succeed. Several teachers have national recognition and more than a dozen are renowned within the municipality. Excellence and quality are assured.

A broad curriculum is available to all students. Besides core subjects, we offer such courses as speed-reading, astronomy (we have an observatory), cross-cultural studies, and audio/visual information assimilation. The school believes in a system based upon student feedback. Additional courses are provided accordingly.

ACHIEVEMENTS
The school boasts many achievements, even though it has only been operational for a short period of time. Students have won 635 provincial and 98 national awards. In addition, the school has been presented with awards for teaching excellence, moral and ethical principals, and horticulture. In September 2003 the Wuhan Government endorsed the school as the most exemplary, from more than 100 other senior high schools. Almost 100% of all our students go on to further study, in tertiary institutions.

Our students are active in many inter-school and private competitions. The areas include science, music, arts and drama. In November 2003, several students took part in the ABC Mcdonald’s competition, which was broadcast on television. The students won the competition, which consisted of general knowledge questions, personal ability and drama.

The school’s facilities and academic record have in some areas exceeded provincial standards. In the near future we will elevate our standards to a national level. We propose to do this in several ways, one of which is to commence a comprehensive student exchange program with several countries. This will not only promote language skills, but instigate cross cultural awareness.
